Since I now spend most of my time in a boring office tower, I've been reflecting back upon the days when I had the opportunity to explore the world. When I lived in Lisbon, I used to rent cars on the weekend from Fernando at Sixt. I would drive further and further north or east as time went on. This particular fortress sits on the Southeast border between Portugal and Spain. What a fun road trip that was, especially since it included stops in some of my favorite towns (a one-street pottery center, outstanding gazpacho and Vasco de Gama in Evora, more pottery and views in picturesque Monsarraz) and an excursion into Spain.
