Pee Wee Herman, 80's Icon
As Al pointed out, Pee Wee Herman was correct when he stated in the film Pee Wee's Big Adventure that there is no basement in The Alamo. In fact, there is almost nothing in The Alamo, or in San Antonio for that matter. After viewing The Alamo, perusing the cheesy souvenir shops (oh how tempting that woven plastic Frida bag was), and walking The Riverwalk, Al and I had nothing left to do but plop ourselves down on the patio of a bar and drink a liter of margaritas (frozen, of course, as the outside temperature was well over 100 degrees). I know that our sister appreciated our drunk-dialing her in the middle of the afternoon while she was at work.
One other notable thing in San Antonio is Biga On The Banks, one of Gourmet magazine's top five restaurants in Texas. The chicken-fried oyster appetizer, served with mustard hollandaise sauce and over squid ink linguini with pancetta was absolutely out of this world!
