I've been disappointed by the level of suburban conformity in our neighborhood. After all, isn't variety in things like holiday decorations or landscape choices part of what keeps things interesting, especially on a street with homes of varying architectural styles? In that vein, I've found it particularly disturbing that we have one neighbor who stares out the window or hides in the bushes* so that they can later attempt to copy what we are doing in our garden.
Now that we have wised up to their game, we have strategically hidden all sprayer labels and obscured any clues as to what we aim to accomplish outside. However, it will forever be satisfying to know that, before we caught on to what was happening, in their desire to emulate us, they surrounded their pool with composted manure, no doubt perfuming their outdoor living area for the duration of the steamy summer.
* It is always fun to look over and see the outline of a poorly-concealed neighbor attempting to listen in on your conversation. Just for fun we started to have outrageous, fictional conversations that were designed only to troll them and feed into their insecurities
For any skeptics who may be thinking that composted manure does not smell, as an individual who purchased four cubic yards of it that spring, I assure you that indeed it does
